Tehran is ready to resume nuclear talks with Washington on condition that it is treated with "respect" and "honor", Iran's foreign minister has declared.

The Iranian diplomat declared exclusively dialogue was effective, and shared fresh requests had come from mediators to resume discussions with the US government. He claimed Iran did not have secret atomic facilities, and Tehran had not yet reached a point to allow the global atomic watchdog to visit bombed nuclear sites for security reasons.

Navigating a Difficult Path

Araghchi is navigating a difficult path since Iran does not want be perceived to be proceeding from a position of weakness, and he insisted repeatedly that Iran had emerged stronger in military terms and emotionally from the Israeli-US attack on its nuclear sites in June.

He was speaking at a defense forum in Tehran where he reaffirmed that Iran had "a fundamental entitlement to refine atomic fuel on home soil that it will perpetually retain" – the key factor of the stalemate in the prior discussions.

Previous Talks Unexpectedly Concluded

The previous five rounds of talks between the United States and Iran were brought to an abrupt and bitter end on 12 June when the Israeli government, with US support, struck Tehran's atomic facilities in a 12-day war that ended with Donald Trump claiming the sites had been eliminated. Subsequently, European countries employed their privilege to reinstate global restrictions, but Iran asserts they have not had a major impact.

Perfect Agreement Offered

Iran's diplomats said they felt they had reached a "ideal resolution" to the enrichment issue in prior discussions, when it was decided an domestic cooperative with US participation could enrich uranium. Each party would have been able to assert triumph since domestic enrichment would have remained and the US could be confident that Iran's atomic project was solely for peaceful purposes.

It had not been settled in the negotiations that American atomic experts could operate within Iranian territory, but that was a logical implication of the cooperative offer. Representatives asserted on multiple occasions they had reached agreement with Trump's special envoy the American negotiator only for the arrangement to fall apart due to "detractors in America".

Current Position

Iran's diplomats said the cooperative arrangement was now withdrawn, but it seems highly likely the suggestion could be reintroduced in certain ways if negotiations restart.

The US president recently claimed he had been receiving messages that Iran sought to reopen negotiations, but confidentially Iranian officials say they are not yet obtaining consistent overtures from America either explicitly or from key regional mediators, such as Qatar, Egypt, the Omani authorities and Saudi Arabia. The Iranian foreign ministry has been criticized of passivity in the aftermath of Trump's direct instinctive approach, but Tehran asserts diplomacy is not part of a spectacle.

Negotiating Stance

In his speech to the gathering, aimed to paint the US as a dominant force that misuses the idea of worldwide standards, Araghchi declared the fortnight-long engagement showed the conflict could not be resolved by armed force. He said the strikes started with a Washington's ultimatum for an total Iran submission and ended with an complete request for a halt to hostilities.
